Cedarburg Memories from Ellie and Jo

Created by Patty 14 years ago
It’s true that the Engelking family moved from Cedarburg, but their move did not take our memories with them. Today we especially remember Bruce and where his memories still linger: We see Bruce’s shadow along Cedar Creek on Buckingham Court. His memory is there. Golfers still laugh when they approach the 11th hole at Hawthorne Hills – the Propensity Hole. His memory is there. Barth’s is now closed, but we’ll bet that Bruce’s chair still sits by the window at the bar. His memory is there. And we can see Bruce having his favorite broasted chicken dinner at the Edge of Town and loving every bite. His memory is there. We can see our handsome, daper friend in his neatly pressed casual pants and tidy dress shirt throw that image aside and don a purple dress, climb atop a garbage truck and become the best Miss Piggy that Cedarburg has ever seen! We’ve even seen those neatly pressed pants down around his ankles as he read the paper in a portable out house. Bruce certainly was our star in the Hickory Street entry in the 4th of July parade. Now we all are wondering what we can do in remembrance of Bruce. The City of Cedarburg has a program called the Legacy Bench and Tree Program. It honors a relative or friend by placing a tree, bench, or table in one of Cedarburg’s parks or city trails. This dedication gift provides a lasting remembrance of a loved one. A square metal table with four attached metal seats costs $1200.00, a six-foot long metal bench costs $800.00, and a tree costs $350.00. We envision a bench or table or tree at Cedar Creek Park (City Park) where we all gathered after the 4th of July parade. We think it would be a most fitting legacy to Bruce and his family. The item(s) purchased would be installed next spring followed by a celebration in the park in remembrance of our friend Bruce. We are now collecting contributions to this lasting memorial. If the Legacy Tree and Bench Program is one you would like to support in celebration of Bruce’s friendship, please send your contribution made out to Ellie Hanson (with Bruce Legacy in the memo area on the check) by February 10, 2010 to: Ellie Hanson N68 W5691 Bridge Commons Court Cedarburg, WI 53012 Very sincerely, Ellie Hanson & Jo Shoemaker
